Well, I've finished [livejournal.com profile] scarvesnhats and now I can sit back with a sigh of relief. I'm rather chuffed to discover I've written a short novel over the last month.

I've got a challenge fic still due (Andromeda gen-fic) and a couple of unfinished pieces to finish up. Beyond that I don't intend to be posting much fic for the next few months. I did [livejournal.com profile] scarvesnhats to kill a nasty bout of writer's block with my original writing. It's dead. Dead, dead, dead.

Which means, I'm afraid, you won't see me for dust for the next few days. After that I'll be around to comment but I will only be posting new work infrequently. I will keep answering comments, of course, because I'll still be notified of them. I now have a fandom email (it's on my info page) so feel free to drop me a line at any point.

I had considered departing fandom altogether at this point but you guys are too cool. :) So, I'll be around. When it comes down to it, though, however much I adore my Slytherins and hapless Marauders, I love my own characters more and they're getting restless.

See you around.

Jenny

*grins* I'm not good enough to publish yet. I need to get something substantial finished.

I don't know how easy it is to go from fanfiction to original fiction. I came the other way. They're certainly very different ways of writing. Fanfiction is very safe - there's always the safety net of canon. The structure is also different - you can assume enough canon-knowledge from your readers that you don't always have to build up a character in the same way. It's much easier to be non-linear with fanfiction and you lose all the intertextuality once you create your own universe. One of the things I find exhilarating about my own stuff, though, is the chance to invent my own worlds and my own characters. I don't think I'd ever be truly satisfied with writing something where I couldn't do that.
