Well, I've finished [livejournal.com profile] scarvesnhats and now I can sit back with a sigh of relief. I'm rather chuffed to discover I've written a short novel over the last month.

I've got a challenge fic still due (Andromeda gen-fic) and a couple of unfinished pieces to finish up. Beyond that I don't intend to be posting much fic for the next few months. I did [livejournal.com profile] scarvesnhats to kill a nasty bout of writer's block with my original writing. It's dead. Dead, dead, dead.

Which means, I'm afraid, you won't see me for dust for the next few days. After that I'll be around to comment but I will only be posting new work infrequently. I will keep answering comments, of course, because I'll still be notified of them. I now have a fandom email (it's on my info page) so feel free to drop me a line at any point.

I had considered departing fandom altogether at this point but you guys are too cool. :) So, I'll be around. When it comes down to it, though, however much I adore my Slytherins and hapless Marauders, I love my own characters more and they're getting restless.

See you around.

Jenny

You'll be missed! Good luck with RL and your original writing.

Thanks :) I'll still be around, just not as much.

How do we get to see your original writing? Are you going to publish?

What I want from life is to write fan fiction more easily and then to segue to writing original fiction. The problem with seeing other people model that is then I never get to see the original fiction!

*grins* I'm not good enough to publish yet. I need to get something substantial finished.

I don't know how easy it is to go from fanfiction to original fiction. I came the other way. They're certainly very different ways of writing. Fanfiction is very safe - there's always the safety net of canon. The structure is also different - you can assume enough canon-knowledge from your readers that you don't always have to build up a character in the same way. It's much easier to be non-linear with fanfiction and you lose all the intertextuality once you create your own universe. One of the things I find exhilarating about my own stuff, though, is the chance to invent my own worlds and my own characters. I don't think I'd ever be truly satisfied with writing something where I couldn't do that.

I'm glad to hear that the fic cured your writer's block -- and (selfishly) I'm very glad to hear you won't leave the fandom completely! You and your excellent fic would be missed greatly!

When I have the chance, I'll probably be checking out some of your older works... I'm very interested in seeing what you've written with Regulus.

Best of luck with the original writing!

Thanks - I may need that luck. This month has left me with more confidence about my writing which should help (I've realised that I can do pace and dialogue which I've always considered my great weaknesses).

I wish you the best of luck in your writing. You're amazing, as I've told you before.

I've friended this journal, and hopefully you get a chance to friend me back- even if you never write in this again, although I hope you do! :)

Thank you. I will write a few more things but it's time to get back to my own world. I'm currently feeling horribly guilty because I checked my other writing page this morning and had a whole string of comments from people asking if I was okay because I'd vanished for so long. I need to get back, check in with them and write out some of the wings in my head. There's not much place in HP fandom for men with wings ;)

Very very late in commenting - many apologies. So glad that the exercise has helped your writer's block, and that you've treated us to so much excellent work along the way. I've enjoyed this immensely, even though I'm not really a R/S-er at all!.

::pokes head nervously above parapet::

Just saying that to further compliment you on keeping me engaged, really. You did a great job of interweaving the various plot lines. Once again, thanks so much for the Peter portrayal. Anyway, am intrigued now by your men with wings! Don't disappear altogether...

No worries, m'dear. I saw things had been a bit stressful for you.

I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the ship. Ahem. *looks innocent*

I'm still around - I check here every couple of days. I'm just not writing fic any more. I enjoy swooping in on the meta too much to vanish completely.
