Reservoirs (Day 5)...

...had the most adorable prompt ever. Oh, and it's here

Okay, no coherent commentary today, because I've been dashing around the south of England all day, and now have had too much wine to be sensible. I've spent most of the day in the Records Office in Chichester reading the Bognor Post for 1976 (not for this, but for an original project), and then our bus overheated and broke down in Cocking on the way home (yes, real place name. I *adore* Sussex, with its Bosham and Manhood, its Fulking and Didling, and sandy Witterings) and I was tired before I even saw the prompt. So, this was written on a brief wave of 'Eee! Fridge! Sirius! Daw!'

The prompt image was very Sirius, but my brain insisted that Remus was more likely to hide behind an old-fashioned fridge. So I explored that. Remus' mother left Wales after the reservoir swallowed up her village. When Remus was bitten, the family moved back so that they could live somewhere quiet and isolated. It was a very unhappy summer, and wee Remus wanted to hide and there was this little space in the kitchen, so that became his hideout.

Sirius in the flashback is completely taken aback by someone else's vulnerability so he opens himself up in return. The relative in question is Phineas Black, disowned for supporting Muggle Rights.

Nothing flashier than that, really.

I've been following along, and I have to say you're really getting me interested in Remus's Mother. From her comment in the second chapter, through her backstory I'm starting to wonder about how she shaped Remus. Plus her presence and the strong present of Lily are interesting counterpoints to the often male dominated Marauder stories. I can't wait to read more.

Thank you. I'm not sure if we'll see her again in the series. I see her as someone very contained and reserved, a little dour, but passionately devoted to her family. She's the tough one who held them together after Remus was attacked.
