Dear Yuletide Writer

*blows cobwebs off journals* Wow, it's been a while. Anyhow...
First of all, thank you :) Thank you for signing up and thank you for volunteering to write in at least one of my crazy little fandoms. If you're new to Yuletide, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have the last two years - it's one of the best ways to spend the Christmas Hols.
I was fairly detailed in most of my requests, so I'm just going to take this as a chance to talk a bit more about these fandoms and why I adore them. Hopefully, that will give you some ideas if you're stuck for inspiration.
Jean Estoril - Drina series - These were a childhood favourite of mine and I read them until my copies fell apart. I always adored Drina's big secret and the way she sometimes struggled to find her own way. I reread a lot of them last summer and it struck me how many other stories were crammed into the series - I found myself wondering about Marianne Volonaise and Igor Dominick Sr; about how Mrs Chester felt watching her daughter grow up; about Elizabeth Ivory herself - so many tantalising glimpses in the books. I wanted to know more about the Lorencz family and their escape from behind the Iron Curtain or about the life led by Adele Whiteway (who I think I always assumed was a lesbian) when Drina's not looking. Give me a sense of the time and place and tell me about one of these people and I'll be overjoyed.
Shakespeare - Much Ado About Nothing - Beatrice is my favourite Shakespearean heroine. I love her wit and warmth, and I keep wondering about the hints she drops about her earlier relationship with Benedick. I'd love to know their backstory.
Ali Sparkes - The Shapeshifter Series - I love these books for the sheer daft fun of them - I posted my initial reaction to the last book here and that pretty much sums up why I want fic for them. Entertain me, please ^_^
Diana Wynne Jones - Archer's Goon - I was reading this the weekend before the sign-ups, and rediscovered my love for Erskine, in all his smelly glory. I maintain that he's the best of the lot, and would love to see more of him.
I hope that helps :) Whatever you write, have fun!
Jen
Eeee! My assignment arrived! *goes to look*

Date: 2008-11-20 01:31 pm (UTC)How was your summer? Was it this year or last that you were off on the Mabinogi-inspired tour of Wales? I've been teaching it this term, as part of a general course on Welsh literature from the the Old North onwards - great fun for me, although the students, alas, are somewhat glaikit and unappreciative :)
