Peter frustrates me in canon. I keep hoping we'll get some more insight into him in Book Seven but I suspect he's just going to repent at the last minute and die saving Harry and never explain.

I think the war would have been like that, with different emotions muddled together because there wasn't enough time to keep them seperate.
