I'll try to do some notes every day, though the length might vary. I didn't finish part two until about 2am last night, which is why I'm writing this now.

Between writing the first and second parts, I managed to untangle a little of the plot and backstory, so I now have a vague idea what's going on. Sirius has made the decision to go back to his family for the few weeks until his birthday, in order to protect the Potters. I don't know yet what happened there, but I know it was bad. I suppose I'm playing with the idea of the Blacks being almost royal, with the political backlash of Sirius' flight, and the potential he has for becoming a flashpoint to turn the terrorism and counterstrikes of the mid-seventies into outright war.

Having it be a conscious decision on his part meant that all his friends would be braced for his real escape on his birthday. So this section had to be a gathering of the troops - Peter and James and Lily all arriving and ready to go to the rescue if his escape fails. The key line for me here is Peter's - he sees it as entirely natural that the four of them will storm the house of Black if they need to.

Of course, they don't need to, but just because Sirius has escaped, it doesn't mean he's okay. I'm finding that threads are beginning to weave together here - wounds and resentments and oppression, and the all-pervading motif of fire - from Lily smoking to the smoke in the sky to the final twist (no one's said anything in the comments yet, but is it obvious why he's burning? I thought it would be). And, of course, there's all sorts of storytelling potential in fire - Gryffindors, dragons and phoenixes, fiendfyre and devastation and revenge. I don't know yet if any of those things are going to woven into this story, but there's potential (yeah, no spoilers here, I don't know where the hell I'm going with this).

Meanwhile, Remus is in a position, because of his family background, where he's encountered a culture which has become defensive because of the way someone else's idea of progress has damaged it. That gives him a little bit of insight which James and Sirius, in the heart of the fire, don't have.

Hmm. I seriously have no idea where this is going *goes to check out next prompt*
