Assorted Deathly Hallows icons, mostly for my shiny new OTP.

I've been making my own icons for a while, but this is the first set I've actually posted for other people to see. *is slightly nervous* Hope you like 'em, folks :)

Photos in these icons are of Bartek Borowiec and Kristian Lidegaard (see here) and of the dungeons of Hastings Castle.

For running away. I was disappointed in him. I know people have jumped to his defence, but it seemed like a supremely selfish act. It seemed like he was putting his own despair above the choices of those who loved him. I knew he could be spineless and had trust issues, but I always thought he had too much of sense of humour to pity himself that much. If I'd been Tonks, I'd have run off with Charlie.

See...I don't know. He was definitely being a jerk, but I give him a little leeway. I wonder how many men in his position - not as a werewolf, but as a soon-to-be father who is terrified of screwing up his child's life - wish they could run away from the situation, or, sadly, actually did so. My read of it was that maybe he was using it as an excuse to panic, and I think he would've gone back without Harry's verbal facekick, but we can't know for sure. In any case, it's just my interpretation.

*nods* I understand it, but it still made me angry. Thinking about it, I think it hit a personal nerve. I lived with someone who was so caught up in his own self-pity that he had no idea of the damage he was doing to those around him and, well, I thought better of Remus. I've always seen him as someone who prefers to avoid taking emotional risks, but will survive what life throws at him with a quiet dignity. I'm trying to shuffle my understanding of his character around now, as I was obviously off. Once I've got a sense of who he is again, I'll go back to writing about him.

But in the end, he did take the risk. He did go back, even after the one moment of overt self-pity and angst that we've seen him display. He had a breakdown at a moment of extreme stress from all sides (a new marriage, a baby on the way, not to mention the war), but still did the honorable thing. That still reads Remus to me, though of course, we are all going to have a different interpretation.

Sorry to keep going on about this. I was disappointed with him too, but I'm a bit startled by the extent of some of the anger I've seen thrown at him over this. (I'm not including you in that observation.) Of course, plenty of people hated Remus even before this book, so to each their own.

I think it got to me because I'd written him so much that I thought I understood him. The Remus I write, though, would be too afraid of humiliation to abandon his family. He'd still be miserable and he'd still make others miserable, but he'd be too proud to walk out. It made me sad because it showed me that I'd been wrong about one of the key points in my interpretation of his character. I still like him, but I can't write about him until I know who he is again. I'm not attacking him, because I like him flawed. I just thought he had different flaws.

That makes a lot of sense. I can definitely understand that.
