Thank you. I did put a lot of careful work into structuring this before I started. I'm a bit of a research obsessive so the planning is all part of the fun for me.
Chaucer was the only thing I was deliberately referencing, but I studied Old and Middle English for three years, and I've always drawn on it heavily in my writing. Once you're aware of the elegaic mode, it's hard not to draw on it - English is a language which is so suited to melancholy.
