...in the US, how old are kids in Seventh Grade?

Here Year Seven students are aged 11-12, and it's the first year of secondary school. I'm currently writing an essay about how Year Sevens use MSN Messenger. Most of the literature, however, is American, and I'm getting confused about equivalent age groups.

And, yes, today, for the first time in over four years, I'm skipping lectures because I failed to do any reading during reading week. *facepalms*

*is amused*

I have a southern English accent, which is the British equivalent to a non-accent, although I swing right up the social scale when I'm pissed off (my education was a damn sight posher than my family background so I have access to different registers). I'm also enough of a language geek to be weirdly entertained by taking this sort of test.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.
