I always wondered what in the end made Peter turn out this way; as I said earlier, people tend to forget he's been a Marauder and Sirius saying in POA "You should've died, as we would've done for you" makes me realise that they were in a deep, deep friendship otherwise Sirius wouldn't have said that.
