I read through the archive in reverse alphabetical order by fandom each year (everyone needs a system, right ~_^). So here, to get started are some recs in Fandoms Z-R:

Die Morgensheutegesternwelt (2389 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Young Wizards - Diane Duane, Illuminatus! Trilogy - Robert Shea & Robert Anton Wilson, The Sandman
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Carl Romeo/Tom Swale
Characters: Carl Romeo, Tom Swale, Delirium of the Endless
Summary: A pair of wizards and an enormous heap of pop culture references walk into a music festival in Ingolstadt, Bavaria. Some abnormal things happen.

A pitch-perfect fusion of canons with he best band names ever.

A Poet and a Scholar (2633 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Venetia - Georgette Heyer, Grand Sophy - Georgette Heyer
Rating: Mature
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Aubrey Lanyon/Augustus Fawnhope, Jasper Damerel/Venetia Lanyon
Characters: Aubrey Lanyon, Venetia Lanyon, Jasper Damerel, Augustus Fawnhope
Summary: It is not every person who has the opportunity to attend an orgy in the company of a notorious rake.

Absolutely charming – everyone was perfectly characterised, with all the knowing wit of the original.

Crossing Swords (2032 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Valdemar series - Mercedes Lackey
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Alberich of Karse, Kerowyn, Myste (Valdemar)
Summary: Kerowyn is hardly the first adult warrior to be Chosen. It's almost like there's a system for these things.

Alberich and Kerowyn are my favourite Valdemar characters – both outsiders and both past their adolescent angsting stage. This is a very believable look at their first meeting and the way they both see the world.

A Special Limited-Time Offer (1059 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Tough Guide to Fantasyland - Diana Wynne Jones
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Summary: It's the adventure you've been waiting for!

Funny and insightful as the orginal but also making some spot-on critiques of misery!Fantasy.

The Tough Guide to Yuletide (3820 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Tough Guide to Fantasyland - Diana Wynne Jones
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary: What it says on the tin.

Everyone under the sun will be reccing this one and deservedly. Absolute genius – the definition of pinch hitter made me laugh out loud.

The Tough Guide to Fantasy Cities (2803 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Tough Guide to Fantasyland - Diana Wynne Jones
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary: You will not encounter any rustic taverns, bards, or bowls of stew on these tours! Instead, expect nightclubs, rock singers, and lots of gourmet coffee.

The original concept perfectly adapted to urban fantasy. Particularly informative in the subects of vampires, demons and love triangles.

Past Tense (2035 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Protector of the Small - Tamora Pierce, Song of the Lioness - Tamora Pierce
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Major Character Death
Characters: Buriram Tourakom, Thayet jian Wilima, Kalasin jian Wilima
Summary: Three moments in the lives of Buri, Thayet, and Kalasin of Sarain.

Young Buri and Thayet growing up. It's good to see something which both focusses on the real tragedy of their story and the strength of the bond between them.

A Convincing Woman (2600 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: The Masqueraders - Georgette Heyer
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Robin Tremaine, Prudence Tremaine, Charles Edward Stuart
Summary: When Bonnie Prince Charlie needed to escape Scotland after the Battle of Culloden who better to help him than Robin and Alexander Lacey... or is that Robin & Prudence Tremaine.

Perfect Prue voice, wary and sensible, and my heart ached for this Robin and his layers of deception.

The North Face of the Eiger (7475 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Nancy Blackett, Titty Walker
Summary: Nancy and Titty negotiate the ascent of Jack’s Rake.

A really convincing look at a slightly older Titty and Nancy, still exploring the landscape around them but also aware of the wider world. What makes this, though, is the perfect sense of place – it was a surprise to look up and realise I was still in my Surrey kitchen, rather than looking out across the fells.

By the World Forgot (2984 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi | Spirited Away
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Ogino Chihiro, Kamajii, Yubaba
Summary: "Have you always run the boiler room, Kamaji-san?"

Wonderful Kamaji backstory.
