Primarily Harry Potter and Merlin, with a smattering of other fandoms from [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, but that may change.

My term is over, my Christmas shopping 90% done (I love Christmas markets) and the Yuletide pinch hit I managed to snaffle not due until Saturday. Anyone need a beta read/britpick/calming voice reassuring you that the bears aren't really coming to get you? I'm most confident on British children's literature, but I read and watch plenty of other stuff as well, so do ask. Comments screened, or email me at rosie dot rues at gmail dot com.

Less selflessly, is anyone up for a quick skim through a short Remus/Sirius piece? It's less than 3000 words of mildly AU fluff, but I'm a bit rusty on the whole HP universe.

Oh, dear, where did 2012 go? I haven't done anything fannish since I posted by 2011 round-up at the start of the year.

It's been a fairly hectic year - workwise, with six teachers on maternity leave and not enough funds to get cover in for all of them and a not-unrelated promotion I didn't really want. In real life, I had a final falling out with my useless landlady, and had to relocate fairly quickly over the summer, and I didn't get a working internet connection back until mid-November, by which time I was drowning in Nanowrimo woes.

All that, of course, means I missed the sign ups for absolutely everything, and currently have no fest fics lined up. I'm waiting for the tsunami of Yuletide pinch hit requests to start, but may well have time on my hands once the holidays start. If anyone needs a beta read or pinch hit after the 14th, let me know.

Despite all of that, I have written more in the last six months than I have in the last three years before that. I decided to take note of some of the writing skills I'd learned in fandom and try my hand at original m/m romance and now I can't stop the words from pouring out. It's wonderful and I'm enjoying every second of it. If anyone wants to see what I'm up to with that, you can find me on DW as [personal profile] amy_raenbow, on LJ as [livejournal.com profile] amy_raenbow, on Twitter ([twitter.com profile] amy_raenbow) and, as of yesterday, at Dreamspinner Press, Amazon and All Romance eBooks. Come and squee with me :)

Hurrah, Yuletide reveals have happened and now I can do a (rather short) 2011 Masterlist. First off, however, my thanks to [livejournal.com profile] fabrisse for The Hush of Society (Swan Lake) and to [livejournal.com profile] highfantastical for My Heart is Like an Apple Tree (Drina series). They were both quiet and thoughtful and lovely and I am very grateful, especially as I know this went out as a fairly late pinch hit.

This has been a fairly light year for me as far as fic writing goes, but I can honestly say that I like everything I've written this year. Most of my fic has been Merlin AUs, with a couple of XM:FC pieces and the usual fun scatter from mixed fests and challenges. I'm linking the AO3 versions, just because I'm lazy and like the share button. Yuletide fics are down the bottom :)

In order of writing... )

I read through the archive in reverse alphabetical order by fandom each year (everyone needs a system, right ~_^). So here, to get started are some recs in Fandoms Z-R:

Young Wizards, Venetia, Valdemar, Tough Guide to Fantasyland, Tortall, The Masqueraders, Swallows and Amazons )

I've been very lucky this Yuletide! I got two stories this year, which were very, very different from each other and both very good.

The Hush of Society (1980 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Lebedínoye Ózero | Swan Lake
Rating: Mature
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: OMC/OFC, Odette & Odile
Summary:

A poor woman is given the opportunity for security by ruining the life of another whom she resembles.

This is a retelling of Swan Lake set in nineteenth century Russia and is absolutely gorgeous. It's packed with telling period detail and the narrative keeps twisting around to reveal new twists and layers of appearances.

My Heart Is Like An Apple Tree (1611 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Drina Series - Jean Estoril
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Rose Conway
Summary:

Rose gets her little flat. Several months later, a birthday.

I've been asking hopefully for Drina fic for years and this was everything I'd been hoping for. It's Rose, after the end of the books, finally finding her own happiness and place in the world and it's just warm and happy-making. The authorial voice and tone of this are spot on and lots of characters make fleeting appearances. It really feels like something Jean Estoril/Mabel Esther Allan could have written.

I only wrote two stories myself this year and have happy comments from both recipients. Good Yuletide all round!

*bats eyelashes* Can anyone do a quick beta for a shortish Remus/Sirius piece? Historical AU and I'm not convinced it works. I can offer Yuletide (or Merlin or HP) Brit-picking in return or can beta most British kidlit and a fair range of Fantasy and SF.

And, on an unrelated note, if you haven't done so yet, go to Google and type in 'Let it snow.' XD
rosie_rues: (Yuletide)
First off, write something you'll enjoy. It's exciting just to have someone who loves the same crazy little fandoms as me, and I want you to have as much fun with it as possible. I'm not going to lay down some crazily precise requests, because I know how much that would throw me off, but I will tell you what I like about the fandoms I chose and hopefully that will give you some ideas.

The season to be jolly: Drina, Chrestomanci, The Silver Branch, Swan Lake )

Bleurgh. I hate the autumn term - flu followed by sore throat followed by colds followed by oh-my-god-what-the-hell-lurgy-is-that and every day you take off requires you to write hours worth of cover lessons and feel guilty about the extra work you're piling on your colleagues (I'm the only person in my department who isn't brand new, running large parts of the school, or in the midst of massive personal upheaval so I have to just keep plugging along or everything may well fall apart). Haven't seen any Merlin yet, still four or five episodes behind on Doctor Who, grumpy, whiny (did you notice ^_~) and counting the hours until half term.

But I did write something the other week and just kept forgetting to link to it here. Doh. Anyhow, I wrote mad X-Men FC/The Eagle crossover for Lola, because there can never be enough of Charles Xavier in a toga, right?

Wanton in the Air On AO3 | On LJ
(8988 words) by faviconRosie_Rues
Fandom: X-Men: First Class (2011), The Eagle | Eagle of the Ninth (2011)
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr, Raven
Summary:

In which Charles rescues a gladiator from the arena and soon becomes somewhat disconcerted by this handsome new slave and his sharksome grin.

Snaffled from a couple of you - this one sounds like fun ^_^

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I
write in (or think I should), and give me a type of AU (space opera AU,
pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, etc). I will then explain what
story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU

I took the week off from snarling at the second draft of my book to answer some PornBattle prompts, choosing fandoms with the help of a random letter generator. Three fics resulted, with some pairings and voices I've never tried before (but thoroughly enjoyed). Links to AO3

Drink and Be Merry (1987 words) by faviconRosie_Rues
Fandom: Doctor Who, Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply

Summary: River Song has a weak spot for pretty boys who run towards trouble.

May Morning (2627 words) by faviconRosie_Rues
Fandom: X-Men: First Class (2011)
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier
Characters: Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr, Mystique

Oh, well then you're just as stupid as these guys who think that capital punishment is going to be a deterrent for drug kingpins. As if drug kingpins didn't live their day-to-day lives under the possibility of execution. And their executions are a lot less dainty than ours, and tend to take place without the bother and expense of due process. So, my friend, if you want to start using American military strength as the arm of the Lord, you can do that. We're the only superpower left. You can conquer the world, like Charlemagne. But you'd better be prepared to kill everyone. And you had better start with me because I will raise up an army against you and I* will beat you.

Every time I start a West Wing marathon, I love Leo McGarry a little more.

Actually, I love all of them a little more with each rewatch :)

Title: Close Your Eyes
Rating: PG-13 for disturbing images
Words: 4270
Disclaimer: This is for fun, not profit, and I have no rights over this version of the legend.
Summary: The children of Camelot, during the Great Purge. Leon and Morgause are both old enough to remember this time, and I've wondered for a while if they knew each other.
Notes: This started as the first section of a 5 Things about Leon and turned out to be a story of its own. That said, I've got more I want to say about him. And now I'm going to bed, because I've been writing this all night.

You forgot there had been a dragon roosting on the roofs of Camelot once. )

For reposting and de-anoning on [livejournal.com profile] camelotsolstice fics, especially if yours was one of the mystery missing fics. I spotted this in a comment to a recent mod post over there, and I doubt there's any way of officially announcing it, so the more signal-boosting the better. 'Twould be very nice to get a finalised master-list.

Revealing because things seemed to have fizzled out entirely over there. Anyhow, I wrote Thrift for [livejournal.com profile] runningsissors

Title: Thrift
Rating: R
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Merlin/Morgana (Merlin/Nimueh)
Word Count: 7330
Summary: hagridden: adj. i) suffering from nightmares ii) suffering from overwhelming fears and anxieties iii) Obs. ridden by a hag, or witch, causing nightmares
Warning(s): a brief moment of dub-con, creepy lust spells that mess with someone's dreams. Spoilers up to 3:13.
Notes: Several of your prompts are mashed into this – the thrift on Tiree (though this is mostly set on a Merlin-ish Colonsay), the use of the elements, the darker side of magic. 3:13 spoilers ) Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] clevermonikerr, who betaed this at the very last minute.

Disclaimer: This is a work of fanfiction – none of this ever happened. No copyright infringement is intended. No profit is made from this work. Please observe your local laws with regards to the age-limit and content of this work.

Despite the warnings and pairings, this is really just a story about Morgana. More babbling )

So, is it time to unilaterally de-anon on [livejournal.com profile] camelotsolstice fics yet? Because, y'know, I'm proud of that story and I really want to claim it.

Title: A New Low (2/2)
Words: 15000 total
Pairing: Arthur/ Merlin, background Gwen/Morgana
Disclaimer: This is written purely for entertainment, and I am aware that I do not own the BBC's version of these characters.
Summary: Written for this prompt at [livejournal.com profile] kinkme_merlin, which asked for diabetic!Merlin stuck in a lift with Arthur. It grew from there.
Warnings: An odd bit of swearing. And, yes, this is me turning my soapbox issues into romantic comedy, just because.
